The migrations
most vendors wouldn't attempt.

The organisations below came to us when native tools had failed, generic SaaS had hit its scaling ceiling, or the project was simply too sensitive to risk. Here's what we did.

FLSmidth
INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING
Industry Heavy industry · cement & minerals
Headquarters Copenhagen, Denmark
Source Platform Enterprise Vault · Exchange on-prem
Destination Microsoft 365
Project Type Global messaging consolidation

The challenge

FLSmidth runs a global engineering operation spanning dozens of countries and decades of accumulated messaging history. The company had an aggressive move to Microsoft 365 planned, but sitting on-premises was one of the largest Enterprise Vault deployments we'd encountered — 165 terabytes of historical messaging data that had to come across intact.

Prior attempts using native Microsoft tooling had failed. The volume broke assumption after assumption: extraction speed, error tolerance, memory use, resumability. The programme stalled.

What we did

We deployed distributed agents across FLSmidth's data centres to extract data directly from the Enterprise Vault stores — no PST intermediate step, no staging servers duplicating 165TB of data just to move it. Extraction ran in parallel across multiple agent instances, each checkpointing state per-message so that overnight failures never cost ground already covered.

When agents hit corrupt messages — and at this scale there were thousands — they logged the corruption, skipped the item, and continued. The full reconciliation report at the end accounted for every message: migrated, skipped, or flagged for manual review.

The outcome

FLSmidth completed what was, at the time, the largest single Enterprise Vault to Microsoft 365 consolidation we're aware of. Enterprise Vault infrastructure was decommissioned. Historical messages surfaced for the first time in modern M365 search — content that had effectively been invisible for years.

The project became a reference point for what's achievable at scale when the migration engine is built for enterprise fault tolerance from the outset, rather than patched together from tools designed for smaller environments.

Thomson Reuters
GLOBAL MEDIA
Industry News, media, and professional information
Footprint Global · multi-region
Source Platform Mixed legacy archives · PST estate
Destination Microsoft 365
Project Type Multi-region mailbox & archive consolidation

The challenge

Thomson Reuters needed to consolidate email and archive estates across multiple regions into a unified Microsoft 365 tenant. The headline number — more than 90,000 mailboxes — only partly captured the complexity. The real challenge was the matrix beneath it: multiple source platforms, multiple compliance regimes, journalist sources requiring particular handling, and a delivery timeline that didn't allow for a restart if the first approach didn't work.

The organisation needed a migration partner whose engine could run without supervision overnight, across time zones, with distributed agents pushing data into a single tenant without overwhelming it.

What we did

We deployed the platform regionally, with agents located in-region to respect data residency and reduce latency to both source and destination. Orchestration was centralised so that global IT leadership had a single view of progress, but regional teams had delegated access to run their own waves.

Batches were scheduled around business hours in each region. The reconciliation layer produced per-region compliance reports that rolled up to a global view — evidence that no matter where in the world a mailbox originated, every message had been accounted for.

The outcome

The consolidation closed on time with a clean audit trail per region. Regional IT leadership retained operational control through delegated access, while global leadership had the single pane of glass they needed for programme oversight. Historical email became searchable across the entire organisation for the first time.

U.S. Federal Government
PUBLIC SECTOR
Industry Federal government · multiple agencies
Environment Classified & restricted networks
Source Platform PST estates · legacy archives
Destination Government cloud environments
Delivery Partner Dell Federal Services

The challenge

Multiple U.S. Federal Government agencies faced the same problem at once: large PST estates sprawled across user endpoints and file shares, unmanaged, outside any archival or retention policy, and creating both compliance exposure and forensic liability. The legacy archives that did exist couldn't be easily queried, and in some cases the vendors who had built them had moved on.

The consolidation had to happen, and it had to happen inside government cloud environments with the access controls, data residency guarantees, and audit posture that federal compliance requires.

What we did

Working with Dell Federal Services as delivery partner, we deployed Cloud2Cloud Migrator agents inside the agencies' own environments — nothing left the accredited boundary. The orchestrator and audit store lived alongside the agents. Every action performed by every agent, on behalf of every identified operator, was logged to the immutable audit store.

PST files were discovered at network scale, assigned to owners using directory integration, and migrated directly from their original locations without intermediate copying. The chain of custody was documented item by item.

"The service has been one of the best from any vendor."

— Dimitri Dizna, Dell Federal Services

The outcome

PST estates consolidated inside accredited government cloud environments with full chain of custody intact. Agencies gained searchable, governed access to historical messaging data that had previously sat outside their compliance perimeter. The deployment pattern has since been reused across additional federal agencies.
